Even though we are busy with winter sports, preparation for our 55th summer of Coach Wootten’s Basketball Camp is under way. The number of campers who have already signed up is at an all-time high, and we are looking for certified athletic trainers and first responders who are students studying to be athletic trainers to provide a safe and fun environment for our campers this summer!

Coach Wootten’s Basketball Camp is a teaching camp for boys and girls ages 8-18. The camp houses close to 4000 campers each summer. Over the 55 years of camp, we have had to treat minor problems such as scrapes and bruises and severe injuries including various fractures throughout the body to campers needing immediate surgical procedures. Even though the camp’s primary purpose is to develop a well-rounded, complete basketball player, it offers athletic trainers and first responders to practice and develop their skills.

Each summer we have graduated college students from colleges throughout the United States, who use our camp to help them job network. As a result of Coach Wootten’s connections throughout the United States and internationally, we have had athletic training students and professionals obtain jobs at the high school, college, and even professional level. Currently, we have Coach Wootten’s Basketball Staff members working in the DC, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Delaware Public School Systems, UVA, Boston College, UNC, and the DC Metropolitan Area Catholic Private School System. As you can see our previous staff members have used the friendships and professional contacts made at camp to open doors to their futures. As the Head Athletic Trainer and Medical Coordinator, I would like to offer the same opportunities for our past and present staff members.

We have overnight and day camp positions available. Our overnight camp is held at Frostburg State University, Frostburg, MD. Each overnight camp session is one week long. When staff members are not on duty, they are free to workout, swim, participate in the staff pick up games, and visit the nightly hospitality room. Our day camp is held at O’Connell High School in Arlington, VA. Housing is provided for both the overnight and the day camp. We will provide three meals a day for overnight camp and two meals for the day camp. Students who apply to work as a First Responder must be enrolled in an accredited Athletic Training Program and have at least one year’s experience both clinically and on the field/court. A student who is interested in being first responders begin at $300/week, and Certified Athletic Trainers begin at $400/week.

If you are interested in joining our staff CLICK HERE to download an application. Last year’s weeks filled quickly. Make sure to submit your paperwork early. We look forward to the possibility of working with you this summer.

Sincerely,

Terri Lynn Wootten, ATC, VLAT
